  1. The DIY Approach – Rent a car

Rent a car from Reykjavik Airport and drive yourself to Midgard Base Camp! As mentioned, the drive is only one-hour twenty-minutes long. We know some of you commute for longer than that! Take a look at the exact route on Google Maps.

  1. Take the bus

There is a good connection between Reykjavik and Hvolsvollur via public bus. Route 52 runs directly from the main bus terminal BSI from 6.54 am and throughout the day.   1. From the airport

The best way to get to Midgard Base Camp from the airport is to use the Flybus System to get to the main terminal, Reykjavik BSI, and from there to use the public planner to coordinate with the routes mentioned above.

 

  1. Private Tours

A nifty way to get yourself to Base Camp is to tie it in with a private tour via Midgard Adventure. To do so book a multi-day itinerary and include airport pick-up, you can even stop at sights on the way to Hvolsvollur!

There are two main attraction routes we normally take. Going through either the Reykjanes Peninsula and viewing the brilliant sights there or through the Golden Circle. For more information visit the Midgard Adventure website.

 

  1. Bicycle

Planning to travel around Iceland on bike?

Midgard Base Camp is a great point to stop for a break. It’s located in the heart of the south next to the main road NR1. It’s a great overnight destination for bikers and a good day route from the airport, Golden Circle area and Reykjavik – depending on how fast you can cycle.

Cyclists will have access to the Midgard Base Camp garage and the tools to maintain their bikes and keep them safe during the night. There is also a dry room with plenty of space for tents and camping equipment.
