South Iceland is a traveller’s paradise all year round, with each season offering something new. Whilst winter is full of snowy days, dark nights, and the northern lights, summer welcomes in more greenery and flourishing landscapes, alongside plenty of daylight – and sometimes the odd bit of snow, too!

That’s why we put together trips at Midgard Adventure – the sister group of Midgard Base Camp – that are perfect for certain times of the year. If you’re heading over this summer, why not check out or incredible travel experiences that we’ve got on? Here’s a little taste of what you can expect.

Fimmvörðuháls Midnight Hike (June-September)

This gorgeous hike makes the most of the midnight sun when it’s around, a phenomenon to those unfamiliar with it, and the longer days in general during the summer.

Meet your group at 9.00PM – make sure you’ve had plenty of sleep during the day, and a coffee can help to perk up sleepy eyes! – before heading out on this night-time trek. You’ll cross hot lava at Fimmvörðuháls, visit the Eyjafjallajökull volcano (made famous after those 2010 eruptions), descend at the Skógá river, and more! The beautiful sunrise you’ll be able to enjoy is a must-see sight, too.
